Artisan Deli Co. Rosemary Breadsticks 150g

Product Information
Nutrition

Artisan Deli Co. Rosemary Breadsticks are made in Cuneo, in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. Cuneo has a strong culinary history and can trace its origins back to 1198.

Our Rosemary breadsticks are incredibly versatile. They can be served as an appetiser or wrapped with prosciutto and served as an hor d’œuvre or served warm and topped with butter, garlic and cheese. They can also be used as a dessert item, topped with cinnamon, sugar and icing.

As with all great culinary inventions, the history of the Breadstick is a subject of some debate!  The general consensus is that it was invented in the 17th century in a small town outside Turin, in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. Translated into Italian breadsticks are known as grissini. Artisan Deli Co. Rosemary Breadsticks are not made, they are crafted! Using traditional techniques, our breadsticks are formed the proper way – dough is mixed incorporating the Rosemary, then portioned, flattened and rolled into shape.

It is then allowed to prove (rest) before being baked to a crispy, golden texture which creates a rustic shape, texture and taste unlike mass-produced extruded breadsticks that claim to be authentic.

Rosemary is synonymous with Italian cuisine and is used in almost every Italian recipe!  It is one of the finest of all Italian culinary herbs and was being used before the foundation of Mediterranean culture itself.  Athenaeus, the ancient Greek philosopher, wrote about cooking with Rosemary in the 2nd century A.D. and the Etruscans, were already using Rosemary in cooking in 300 B.C.

The Etruscans believed that Rosemary was capable of warding off evil spirits, while the ancient Greeks believed that Rosemary assisted memory.  Some suggest that Rosemary has physiological and mental health benefits.

The combination of Breadsticks and Rosemary was inevitable and what a fantastic combination it turned out to be!  So, how should you enjoy our The Artisan Bread Company Rosemary Breadsticks?  Our suggestions are:

  • Use them to enjoy your favourite dip – Onion & Garlic, Soured Cream or Cheese & Chive

  • Dunk them in Greek yogurt or Hummus

  • Smother them in soft Goats cheese

  • Serve with a salad (or smash’em up and mix them in)

  • Enjoy with a nice bowl of soup (or crumble them over the top)

  • Wrap them with cured meats

  • Warm them and cover with Garlic butter

…. or just enjoy them on their own.
