Health benefits of dried fruit and veg

Getting more vegetables and natural dried fruits in your diet is one sure-fire way to benefit your health. Gram for gram, there’s more protein and fibre in dried fruit than in their fresh counterparts. Our Farmhouse Chutney harnesses the natural goodness of dates, raisins, and sultanas to give your body a boost. These little fruits are also full of antioxidants called phenols. People with diets rich in plant phenols and fibre have lower rates of heart disease and diabetes. Combined with onions, apple, carrots, swede, and ginger, this chutney is packed with goodness.

How its made

Our Farmhouse Chutney has precise quantities of real natural fruit and vegetables measured and cut by hand to create an indulgent accompaniment to all your favourite meals. The only way we can be so precise is having a team who are passionate about ‘slow food’ – taking regional ingredients and cooking them in time-honoured, traditional ways. Kept on a slow, rolling boil in large copper pans for hours, our chutney simmers away, softening and becoming more flavourful with each passing minute. The physical ingredients are smaller in our chutney than what they would be in a relish, which gives it an easy spreadability and can be elevate anything its paired with.

Made in batches of 4,000 per day, the McGerty’s team pack a lot of care, love and attention into every pot.

How its packed

Dried fruits not only have health benefits, but we’ve found we can cram loads more into a pot than we could with fresh fruit! Our slow cooked chutney is hand-packed into small pots to prevent food wastage and keep freshness locked in. It’s also a lighter load on trucks and saves on fuel, pumping fewer CO2 nasties into the atmosphere. Finally, the pots are a really handy size for consumers to grab and go, from work lunches to picnics and more.

How to enjoy

Our Farmhouse Chutney is perfectly partnered with cheeses, meats, and antipasti (but if we’re honest, it goes with just about everything!). The best ways to enjoy includes:

  • Paired with picnics

  • Add it to elevate a ploughman’s lunch

  • Use it to supercharge salads

  • Poured over warm goat cheese or brie

  • Serve it with grilled sausages
